Hush (Emily Osment and Josh Ramsay song)
"Hush" is a song written by American singer Emily Osment and Canadian singer Josh Ramsay. They decided to collaborate when Osment went on a trip to Canada to film a movie, and met Ramsay. They immediately hit it off, and decided to write a song together.[1] It officially premiered on Much Music on April 26.[2] The song was released to Canadian radio on May 10, and Canada's iTunes store on the same day. Emily Osment confirmed on her official Twitter that there will be a music video for the song and will be released late September.[3]
Background and composition
"Hush" was written by Emily Osment and Josh Ramsay, who also produced the song. "Hush" is moderately a fast song. It is about a troubled teen relationship with lyrics like "You say that you’re never gonna leave me / But two times that you tell me that you need me / This line is mine, just think about it / You don’t know, you don’t know, you don’t know.” It is unknown if the song will be released on an album. The song is a duet between Osment and Ramsay, but it is often referenced as featuring Josh Ramsay.[4]
Critical reception
Scott Shetler of Popcrush.com said:
- "Osment released her first album less than a year ago, and the 19-year-old’s singing career is still growing. Unfortunately, ‘Hush’ probably won’t be the song to provide her breakthrough hit, as the synth-pop production is rather plain. The unimpressive musical accompaniment leaves the focus on the performers’ vocals, a mistake in the case of Osment, whose thin voice feels so light it could float away, even when it’s double-tracked on the chorus. The inclusion of Ramsay is definitely a good move, as his verses and harmonies help liven up the track." ().[5]
Song on Lyrics.com gave the song a more positive review saying:
- "Hush just goes to show us that Emily Osment is pretty serious about singing and she’s got the vocals to prove it." () [6]
